What will the doctor do?

The doctor will run the usual checks, blood samples and so on - with no result. The doctor will congratulate you for your good health and you will feel even worse than before. Because that is the thing with Fibromyalgia: it does not show up in the usual tests. You may already have problems breathing or when going to the bathroom - but nothing of that will show up in any test.

But when your doctor is smart, he will then check your “tender points.” These tender points are at the back of the head, at the front sides of the neck, at the top of the shoulders, between the shoulder blades, on the upper chest, on the upper hips, on the sides of hips, on the outer elbows and on the inner knees.

If at least six of these points react painful when the doctor slightly presses them with his fingers, and if this pain persists for more than three months and is accompanied by chronic fatigue - then the doctor should and most likely will diagnose Fibromyalgia.
